Empires: Retail Release |
This scenario begins in a near future world of Afghanastan, brought into shambles by vying warlords who collapsed the government in on itself. The western world now attempts to defeat the terrorist warlords of the middle east one at a time to restore the political worlds of some of the most historically rich regions of the entire world.

This is the first scenario I've uploaded, and really the first I've ever made. I hope to get some reviews of this, whether positive or negative. Thank you for downloading. |

I should say that this is completely fictional, if you did not infer that from reading that it takes place in the future. And I have done very little research to this scenario and I likely have missed geographic/political/historical accuracies, but who knows? maybe I didnt. |

This is actually a well made scenario from what I have seen. I am not much of a scn player but I enjoy fooling around with the editor. I will suggest that talon review this one if he has time. |

Playability: 3.9
This is a fairly fun scenario, as the player must clear Afghanistan of the warlords that are essentially tearing it apart, which is all the background the player needs. The balance is fairly good, the scenario is on the creative side and the map design is quite good as well. The author succeeded in creating a rather good scenario.
Balance: 4
The balance is pretty good, the player gets enough hardware to feel that he is representing one of the most powerful countries on the globe but little enough for there to be a challenge when it comes to preserving the force throughout the scenario. However, some portions of the scenario are a bit annoying, such as the mined highway--that can really whittle down your force quickly, before you really understand what's killing off your units and at times the terrain forces you into the mines even if you didn't want to go onto the highway.
Creativity: 3.7
Rather than yet another WW2 scenario or some such thing, the author decided to do a future scenario with the tools he had at his disposal, and did a fine job. Overall, the creativity can be seen in some new and interesting map design and certain episodes such as the local militia against the terrorist armored division (which the militia wins!).
Map Design: 3.8
The map design is, on the whole, very nice. Though the deserts are rather bland (being just a single terrain for the most part, if with dunes), the towns are quite well done and just kind of have the right feeling about them, and I was quite impressed with the oasis, a very interesting and nice way to implement it.
Story/Instructions: 4.1
The essential story behind this scenario is that the player must cleanse Afghanistan of the battling warlords. That is all. However, this is adequate as such a storyline has important and powerful connotations--the player already begins on the moral high ground, representing the forces of good and order against those that aren't so good and those of chaos. It is a powerful idea, and reflects the current (and no doubt future) US government's stance quite well. As for instructions, they are adequate though flares to denote where exactly the objectives are would help a bit.
Additional Comments:
- Overall, a fairly good scenario (sorry about the poor quality of the review though, I'm out of shape, as it were). |
