This was a good Automatch game. I thought my great American army would wipe these pesky communist Russians off the face of the earth. Their BM-13's were the only problem. He had a good start, and my hybrid rush failed, but I conquered him in the end. |

Wow, it was a very nice game. Russia mass producing armored cars and conscripts with US making their GIs, few tanks, and air fighters in WWI. Russia switched to a rocket/tank hybrid while US focused on airpower and mixed land forces. US dominated the sky and gold, but Russia owned the army, too bad he had no real AA.
Russia was the main guy on the offense, but in true yobbo style, he somehow had more gold mines throughout the game than Russia, even when his only fighting power was his airforce.
The Russian rockets definitely played a large part as well as the citizen kamkazi against your airports, crippling your bombers. Somewhat suprised when he quit with only 1 small goldmine left and neither power having any army, Russia might of won if he used all his cits to bombard the enemy...maybe lack of gold.
In the end, it was simply air power vs rockets. The US Bombers dominate by themselves and the Russian rockets can tear down entire armies. [Edited on 04/08/04 @ 05:50 PM]

After watching a few more games in the EH Downloads, I should probably add that this is one of the more balanced ones I've seen so far. Both players had a pretty good if not great chance at winning at anytime, but were able to counter each other quite effectively. |

Rookie's delight?
Additional Comments:
This is a balanced game, but I wouldn't call it a great game at all unless you like slow starting, big buildup games. There is virtually no scouting/probing/attacking by either side in the first 20 mins., and the first major combat doesn't occur until 40 mins. into the game. Unless these players had an agreement to play this way, it seems (no offense guys) to be pretty rookie.
Russian player comments:
-has poor start (3 settle, not his fault) but then does little probing which is absolutely key as Russia
-doesent build an Armory until 20 mins. but has two barracks, 2 TFs
-does a terrible job of scouting, misses a key gold mine behind his base which he never discovers (and probably costs him the game)
-does a terrible job of coordinating his attacks when he finally does attack, sends ACs, then Conscripts, then bombers seperately vs US forces with Morale in his home base
US player comments:
-Played extremely defensively also, scouted enemy base very late with fighters
-also did a terrible job scouting, missed 2 gold mines on his side of the map (on the right edge) which would have made it an easy win in late game
-no engineers
-let his tanks get slaughtered by rocket trucks (no micro)
-very late to use his planes to support his army (in his own base) |
