This is definitely my best-played game ever. How fitting that I lost :)
Insomnia got out a fast Armory, then siege workshop, and sent a couple of waves of berzerks, men at arms and ballistae to my base. Barely, making good use of villagers, I beat him back.
He proceeded to the Gunpowder age and sent two more waves, fusiliers, ribauds and such. Barely managing to get up a tower full of villies, and getting out a couple of priests in the nick of time, again I managed to ward him off. Plague really did it, not me. He'd march in, massacre my standing army, I'd plague him, his army'd get to under 100HP per unit (those that didn't die that is), and whatever units came out of my rax and stables, managed to win.
Finally, I get to gunpowder as well, beat back another wave, and decide the time has come for him to try and go Imperial so it's my time to attack.
Going in the middle of the map, what do I see? Why, it's his army! Bigger and better than ever before! And my priests are already dead! Does he march right over their dead bodies and into my town then lay waste to everything? Yup yup.
At any rate, I'm quite proud of myself for holding out that long. I even got my highest player speed ever: 650ish. Mind you, his was over 700 :)
Have I mentioned each of his waves had more soldiers than I had to defend with?
Wow, that was nuts. Incredibly well played. It takes skill to general an army so well, especially in a game where it's more role playing and not depending on morale, weather and such. Bloody well done :)
