The terrain is good and I like the general scene layout, good job. But it looks like someone spilt a can of fairy dust over the picture, which sort of spoils the gritty look of the rest of it.

if you can suggest an exact effect you think will be better, by all means, do so and I'll try it out

I think you should stop relying so heavily on graphic effects and animations and sounds to do everything for you and try, for example, having invisible buildings on the ground that the planes can attack. Then you'd get the machine-gun noise and see the planes firing and see the bullets hitting the 'ground'.

    Just a suggestion.

    posted 09-18-04 12:00 PM EDT (US)     488 / 560
I dissagree, I think that ghraphic effects and custom sounds add alot to the game and in certain situations are the only way to do things.

I didn't say not to use them. I said to stop relying on them to do absolutely everything.

Actually, Lukas has taken to making all fighting animation-sound-kill-effect driven rather than just enabling damage on cinematics.

bullets splattering the ground is nowhere near the same as bombs cratering the ground. or did you fail to notice the size of the explosions?

    Bah.
    posted 09-18-04 12:21 PM EDT (US)     493 / 560
I'm not talking about replacing the explosions, I'm referencing the apparently super-destructive elfin sparkle-dust that sprinkles down from on high.
    posted 09-18-04 12:23 PM EDT (US)     494 / 560
that's part of the explosion, damnit

    posted 09-18-04 12:25 PM EDT (US)     495 / 560
Not in the explosion graphic effects I use.
    posted 09-18-04 12:26 PM EDT (US)     496 / 560
    do you use sfx_xwhitephosphorus?

    Bah.
    posted 09-18-04 12:28 PM EDT (US)     497 / 560
No, I tend to steer away from graphic effects that are inappropriate for the situation - and for the white-phosphorous effect, that's most situations. It worked well in Raus for the tank explosions, but not here.

Did you purposely ignore my suggestion above, and forget to use your own initiative to think you could maybe use the explosion2 effect?

if this is your suggestion, then it should be rather obvious that's not what I'm looking for
if that isn't, I've got no bloody clue what you're talking about

    will do. later.
