Empires: Dawn of the Modern World
Basic Tips before even playing
Now most people when playing online against opponents around the world may think there skills at playing the game are either excellent or terrible. My advice here can make either of the two better. Usually when you would be in lobby, which would be the room where the game settings have been chosen and the host is waiting for players or is about to start. It would be beneficial if you are to arrive in the room before there are the maximum players. Reason being that you can wait until more players arrive, and see how the players talk to each other. If you are a more experienced player you can just sit quiet and listen out to the type of things they say to each other, maybe tell tale signs that they could be a new player, or more commonly known as a noob.
For the newer players you can do the same, it may be harder put I will give you some tips in how to find out noobs from good players. Ratings at times to not mean anything, but if a person does have a high rating it will generally mean they are at least experienced at the game. Now there abbreviations that are used in online games or even chat messengers, such as Nvm (never mind) np (no problem), ns (no sweat) tvb (top vs bottom). There the basic ones, if you find a player that uses the long term phrase, then you’ve just spotted a noob. There are also other things you can tell, like angry players, arrogant players, the stupid players or just plainly chilled players. The angry players tend to be good, but not excellent, they are angry because they know they possess some skill in the game, and want to in other words ‘KILL KILL KILL.’ Not much to watch out for with this player. The arrogant players are dangerous players however, only those with high skill in the game are brave enough to be arrogant, I have never in my entire internet gaming seen an arrogant player that was terrible, beware. The stupid players are the easy ones; these people don’t contain much skill in the game, that’s it really. In my view the most dangerous players of all, because it is hard to tell how good they are, the chilled player. If they show no sign of anger, stupidity or arrogance, it is best to make sure to watch this player very carefully if possible in-game.
From these points I am guessing people will now try and use the arrogant approach, to fear the opponents, it would only definitely work on stupid players, so be careful if you wish to use this technique.
The next few pages will be basic tips for when actually playing the game, there are various methods to suit the type of style of play you wish to in act.
Medieval - Imperial
Franks Two methods(maybe others, but in my view these are the best in the long term effect)
First method:
Start off with 5 citizens, send all of them to build a granary with one field on a forage site
While they are building, click on the Town centre to build 4 citizens with your 200 food
When granary is made, have those 5 citizens forage from the forage site
Have one/two(considering on how quick you want it down) to create a wall if necessary which blocks off the opponent from the majority of gold sites(if you do not understand now, you will know what it means when the time arrives)
There should be more food in stock, make more citizens. It is vital to make sure you keep continually make citizens until there is no need for more. (Note to make sure you have abundant resources may take 10-20minutes in very fast mode, real time)
Have one of the four build a dock if possible(if not just have him build a settlement near a gold mine and trees)
Keep making your citizens collect wood until there is about 15-20 of them chopping, while making fishing boats from the wood collected(if it were possible to build a dock)
That is a basic setup, from then on in, you’re on your own.
Method 2
Slightly different at the start only
Have 3 of your citizens make a granary while sending the other two to make the wall
Create 4 more citizens and have 2 of them go to the forage site at the granary.
One of the 4 to create a dock(if not possible have him make a settlement near a gold mine and trees)
Have the last citizen chop wood.
Follow on from the first method
Other countries have a lot more techniques used, so I will only describe one method of the remaining. It is a long-term method, best for Empire builders or the game has been give a no rush time limit.
England
1 Have the citizen create 2 more warehouses, 2 houses, and a settlement near trees and a gold site
2 Use town centre to research better income for the warehouses
3 Once that is down keep creating citizens to chop down wood
4 Either create 2 towers near where your citizens are chopping wood, or make a wall to limit enemy movements
5 (Optional, not really all that necessary) create a dock with wood created
6 Start making more warehouses with wood collected (note: Wait until there is 10 or more citizens chopping wood)
7 When you have at least 6 warehouses, it is time to make more town centres
8 Make 6 town centres
Dirty Tactic
If you’re brave enough with England it is possible to go to the enemy base and wall up there town centre, this would then limit the amount of citizens they are able to create until they destroy that wall. This will generally do long-term to their economy. You could also wall up gold sites on enemy territory, which would temporarily delay them.
Then just continue on from there.
Korea
1 2 citizens to create dock while 5 citizens are to forage from a forage site.
2 Have falcon set to explore, or send it to where you believe the enemy is
3 Make 4 more citizens from your original 200 food to create a settlement near trees and a gold site then have them chop wood
4 Once dock is complete use those citizens to create walls or towers(like previous methods)
5 Make fish boats, to fish at the sites, with the wood created
6 When enough food is being procured, start making Town Centres, should be at least 8 (so as it is easy to make granaries quick)
Korea has a very strong infantry force, with their cavalry reasonably well in medieval age as well as there fire carts being very, very effective when in big numbers. In Imperial age however their Twin sworded cavalry can be powered up to have an attack of over a hundred.
China
1 Create 4 citizens to forage at forage site, move one town centre closer to that forage site
2 (to be continued)
From the methods above you will undoubtedly change them ever so slightly if you’re an experience player, to suit your style of play. This could then lead to you discovering new methods, ones I have not mentioned. The above methods are only a guide for the ones that are not to sure on how to start up.
World War
For World War I – II I have noticed the following:
France – This country has barely changed economically speaking.
Germany (new) – This country would be the Korea of the world wars.
United States (new) – This country resembles the China of the world wars.
Russia (new) – This country since there is 5 does not resemble just one country, in resembles China the most however as well as a small hint of England through in.
United Kingdom – England, this country has also barely changed economically speaking.
Since these countries resemble the Medieval – Imperial countries, you are able to use the same START UP technique.
In my view the main factor for World War II would be aircraft. Always make sure that your armies are covered by anti-aircraft guns, as well as your own base. In my view you can never have enough of AA guns.
Creating an Aerial fleet is essential in World War II, both fighters and bombers. If you do not have an aerial fleet, your chance of winning the game is slim.
Tips for when to attack
The trick here can be hard, or difficult, depending on which country you have selected. Also, if you have allies, on what country they have chosen. The main factor is that when you decide your army is strong and organised, the time of attack may not be at that time. You must first observe the enemy bases borders carefully, and look for weak spots in depth. Look for spots that they would never expect you to attack from, usually would end up being across the sea. Attack the unprepared, destroy the unexpected. Usually the weak spots would then lead straight into the heart of the enemy economy. Their troops (if they have any) will be more than likely waiting at the borders of where they thought you would attack. Even if your army ends up destroyed, you know that you have dealt a hard blow on the enemy, on their military but especially economy. However, usually the army would not be destroyed. Of course that would depend on the actually structure of the army. It is advised that should be a mixture of cavalry, and infantry, that are capable of both killing infantry easy and killing cavalry easy. For example, sword infantry can kill archers easily; spear cavalry had kill sword infantry easily, that sort of thing. As well as having some siege as well to be able to destroy buildings more easily (note: if your attacking by sea it may take a lot of transport ships to carry a lot of siege)
You may choose to ask your ally for assistance in attacking, or you may ask him/her to defend, I leave the chose, up to you, but be cautious as there is no action without consequence.
Example Strategy
Team islands map: 2v2
First, build a wall around your island. If possible, but must be done quickly, build a transport and create citizens to go into the transport, then send the citizens over to the enemy and hide them(France would be good for hiding them) until the time is right to set up a base. This would be when you have enough resources.
If this is achieved a diversion could be done. Your ally and you should build up an army at the home base, while making sure your navy is strong. While you are doing this have you should then have an abundant supply of resources, so you should start building a base on the enemy base. Once base is built and army is created, have a good amount of transports for the home base army to be moved to the enemy base. Use the navy you have to knock out any walls that might be in the way to allow troops in transports to land. While you’re doing this use the base on the enemy land to create troops ready to attack but don’t attack just yet. Once wall is destroyed land home base troops on the enemy land and both you and your ally attack one of the enemies. If the enemy you are not attacking comes with troops to help his ally, use the ready troops created on the enemy base to attack his base. This will weaken his supplies, and he may quit before it’s over.
