Just wondering who picks random as their civ in playing competitive automatches. There is an extreme advantage when playing as a random civ since your opponent cannot pre-plan how to attack you early on because of the lack of knowing who you are. However you as the random civ player knows exactly who you are playing against and that all too important pre-planning can begin. Imagine for example your a random civ and your opponent is Germany. You can proxy him easily knowing that it is probably an easy victory for you. Also say you are both russia and he tries to proxy you. He will have a much tougher time getting the advantage because you already know he is russia and will be more prepared for his proxy rush. 90% of the time I play random in competitive play and I lose some and I win some, more often winning. I begin playing random after a very respectable player chronaman said that it would be to my advantage. He was right, but many players are reluctant to play a random civ because they fear losing ranking. I say it is worth the time and effort to learn all civs. What do you think?
