Topic Subject: Problem with changing objectives

Okay, maybe it's just not my lucky day, but now I have yet another problem in the editor. I'm trying to add some stuff to the Instructions section at the begining of the scenario using the "Change- Text" effect. Everything works fine. The little scroll pops up just above the mini-map along with the cute little sound. But if I click on it, the game crashes to my desktop. And if I try to start the game again, there is an error message and I have to restart the computer. Any advice?

That happens everytime. In the ingame campaigns there are objective boxes instead.

So what I did was start a campaign scenario..save the scenario...put the saved game file(extention .ees) in the scenario folder...change the file extention from .ees to .scn and opened it up in the scenario editor to have a look at the triggers...;

After looking through over 500+ effects in the Patton 1 scenario, I could not find out how the objectives box worked in the manner in which it was done..

Maybe someone could shed some light.

B.T.W. the triggers were very vast and complicated. Especially the camera layouts...whew!
And I still cannot find out how the specialized unit animations were implimented.

objective box refers to what? the little bozx the objectives are in?

in triggers
player -> add objective
there you can add, remove and complete objectives. added objectives will appear in the little box above the minimap

or were you talking about something else?

Yeah, someone from SSSI needs to get in here and clarify this for us. It's seriously annoying me.

I don't understand the problems, the editor is really easy to use

its only that it freezes frequently on larger (or more full) maps

Use the "Change Text" effect to change. Then play the game and click on the little scroll that pops up. You'll see.

Quoted from Night Conqueror:

I've also seen this; when I clicked on the little scroll the game crashed straight to desktop. I suspect that this trigger is a leftover from EE that's not properly implemented in EDotMW and should have been removed altogether - the function it performed in EE has been replaced by the new Objectives mechanism; so far as I can see no "Change Text" effects are used in the SP Campaigns. If so this is really an editor bug that ought to be corrected in a future patch.

The Change Text effect is residual from EE. In EE, you had the Instructions/History/Hints page, and used that effect to change the appropriate text. In Empires, you have the load screen text, and then in game you have objectives, which have their own effects. So Change Text is probably trying to change something that no longer exists in the game. I didn't even know it was still in there until I read this post. Unfortunately, that's one of the hazards of using the editor, which is unsupported.

It really comes down to time management. We could take the programming & QA time to fully debug the editor, or we could spend it adding new features to the game, extra units, and making sure this is one of the most stable games on the market. Unfortunately everything is a balancing act.
