The Battle of Verdun was one of the longest battles in history. Lasting four years and almost for no reason. Verdun was a town of little strategic importance, but a place where French and German armies had fought in wars before. Experience part of the Battle of Verdun in this scenario.

Playability: 2
Playability gets a 2 because there is nothing really to do, you wait for the Germans to attack you. You take maybe three minutes to kill each wave, and then wait for the next one. You are supposed to "build-up your army," but there are two reasons not to: 1) there is no need, you destroy the attacks without any help anyway, and also 2) the author neglected to change the population limit, so it is impossible to create any units anyway.

Balance: 2
This scenario is heavily unbalanced in the player's favor. Your vickers mg emplacements each have 25 range and 250 attack, all your artillery as 30 range and 263 attack. Any and all German attacks are wiped out quickly. I never even SAW the aforementioned third wave. I didn't know machine guns did so much damage to tanks, though obviously they did, because not even the tanks managed to kill a single defender.

Creativity: 2
Come on! There has got to be more than just waiting. The Germans didn't even use artillery to soften up the French defenses before the attack. The Germans also only attacked one point, instead of a wide attack (which would have made this scn a little more exciting). The lieutenant reporting that he sent fighters to harry the German third wave (and weaken them) was creative, but wasn't backed up in the game. I saw nor heard any planes flying overhead, and the German waves were weak enough already, thank you very much.

Map Design: 2
The map design is uninspiring, to say the most. A 100x100 map (I believe) that is 90% grass1 and plenty of random hills. Both sides have trenches where the defenders are, and both sides have forests somewhere in their territory. The rest of the map is pretty much blank, not even a single ruined building or dead tree to show how terrible this battle really was. The best part of the map might be where an old road semi-winds through two forests inside your territory.

Story/Instructions: 2
There was no opening cinematic, and if the scenario wasn't called "Verdun," I probably would never have known for sure that it was specifically that battle. The objectives are also lackluster: "build up army," "survive first wave," etc, with very little description otherwise.

Additional Comments:
Verdun is one of the battles in history that has an enormous amount of potential for a scn, but I do not think that this scenario is quite what one would like to play if they wanted to experience Verdun in all its combat, blood and horror.

Front Lines Media is making changes as we speak. This one got kind of messed up.
Cow_Marine438 Just a suggestion, but place more trench lines (maybe three instead of the one?), and make the German/French lines closer together.

Blascapone You invented all, it havent a historical support. You were bored, opened a WWI book, and saw the word "verdun" and decided invent a map of it without have more information. You must work more in your scenarios or nobody will play...
